Symptoms or body signals are our body’s way of telling us that there is a deeper, underlying
problem. A headache, like any symptom, is essentially an alarm bell telling us that we need
to take action. Masking or covering up a symptom may give us temporary relief but it doesn’t
correct the actual problem. In fact it enables us to ignore the real issue as it gets worse over
time.

People struggling with headaches will often turn to medication. Medication, while effective in
offering temporary relief, only masks the symptom and can produce serious side effects.

Possible side effects from medications prescribed for headaches can include the following:
nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, heartburn, constipation, liver damage,
kidney damage, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, dry mouth, tingling/burning sensations,
severe tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, vision problems or even vision loss, muscle
weakness, easy bruising, fluid retention, mood swings, weight gain, elevated blood pressure,
blood sugar problems, insomnia, artery damage, excessive hair growth, osteoporosis, fatigue,
memory problems, muscle twitching, confusion, anxiety, sensitivity to sunlight, leg pain, rash,
swelling. Oh and there is one more – HEADACHES.

No, that’s not a typing error. A possible side effect of medication given to stop headaches is
headaches.

Seems like quite a bit of risk for something that doesn’t correct what’s causing the issue. Isn’t
it time we stopped chasing symptoms and start pursuing health? Join us Tuesday, March 5th
at 5:15 PM as Dr. Wade Parkhill walks us through the latest installment of the Body Signals
workshop series titled “No More Headaches”.

A 180 Wellness Chiropractic Patient Testimonial:

Chiropractic has helped me eliminate neck pain and constant headaches, increase mobility in
my neck and allow me to think about things other than holding my head up! Drs. Parkhill and
Wright understand that my treatment plan would not be a traditional one, as much of my spine
had been fused as an adolescent, but they felt confident that they could help me nonetheless.
And help they have! Living a life without pain is such a wonderful thing. I will be forever grateful
to Dr. Parkhill, Dr. Wright, and everyone at 180 Wellness.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help With Numbness

Posted by on Jan 25, 2012 in Blog, Chiropractic Care | 5 comments

Any person who is suffering from tingling in the body will want to learn how chiropractic care can help with numbness in the body.  Most people will experience some form of sensitivity at some point in their lives.  These sensations can be felt in any part of the body including arms, legs, shoulders, and fingers.  The numbness that occurs when the sensory nerve in the body gets disrupted and the communication becomes jumbled between the brain and the nerve ending.

In these situations, the only way that the numbness will disappear is if the disruption goes away.  If the disruption is severe and has been felt for a long time, nerves can be permanently damaged.  This means that numbness is irreversible.  When a person attempts to fix the disruption, the peripheral sensory nerves are placed under treatment.  The process to fix the problem is slow at first.  However, after a period of time, it will get faster.

Nerves that are irritated may lead to these problems.  One of the most common areas that are affected by this is the spine.  The nerves become misaligned in the spine and body numbness is a result.  The spine does not only affect the spinal column.  In certain cases, the spinal column is not affected at all.

The aim of chiropractic treatment is to work on the nerve disruption.  During this treatment, the nerve disruption is removed without the need for drugs, surgery, or painful shots.  The treatment mostly involves massage and other forms of stimulation.  Various studies have shown that chiropractic care has been effective to remove problems relating to numbness.

These studies have also shown that many patients see relief of half of their numbness within weeks of beginning treatment.  Others claim that over 90 percent of patients experience total relief of numbness in one month.  The best part about receiving chiropractic treatment is that it gives permanent relief to sufferers and does not pass on any adverse side effects.  Natural courses of treatment are always the smartest path to follow.  Instead of invasive surgery or dangerous medication, chiropractic care involves little risk.
